Abstract. The effect of orchard soil samples drying on the phosphorus, potassium and magnesium contents determined with the universal, Egner-Riehm and Schachtschabel methods was study. It was found, that drying of soil samples increased phosphorus contents determined with the universal and Egner-Riehm methods. This increase was higher for samples collected from the herbicide strips and upper (0-20 cm) layer of soils. Drying of samples caused decreasing of potassium contents determined with the Egner-Riehm methods either for the herbicide and grass strips samples. This effect was found out also for the universal methods, but only for the samples taken from the upper part of herbicide strips. Drying reduced magnesium soil contents determined with the Schachtschabel methods. For the herbicide strips this effect was higher then for grass ones. There was no drying effect on the magnesium soil contents determined with universal method.

Summary

The research was done in the years 1997-1999 in six orchards. The effect of drying of soil samples collected from the depth of 0-20 and 20-40 cm both the herbicides and grass strips on the phosphorus, potassium and magnesium contents determined with the universal, Egner-Riehm and Schachtschabel methods was tested. It was found, that drying of orchard soil samples increased phosphorus contents determined both with the universal and Egner-Riehm methods. This increase was higher for samples collected from the herbicide strips and upper (0-20 cm) layers of soils. Drying of samples caused decreasing of potassium contents determined with the Egner-Riehm methods either for the herbicide and grass strips samples. This effect was found out also for the universal methods but only for the samples taken from the upper part of herbicide strips. Procedure of drying reduced magnesium content determined with the Schachtschabel methods. For the herbicide strips this effect was higher then for grass ones. There was no drying effect on the magnesium soil contents determined with universal method, however there was a tendency for the lowering content of this nutrient.
